Stephen Grote in Chicken Coop Stephen Grote is an Atlanta, Georgia and LaGrange, Georgia based photography teacher and freelance photographer. He earned his Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree in journalism/photojournalism from the University of Alabama in 1990 before taking a job with Omni Advertising in LaGrange, Georgia, as production manager, editorial writer and staff photographer.

Stephen Grote, US Marine Corps Combat PhotographerIn 1991 Mr. Grote turned his attention toward Combat Photography and enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. He was stationed in Parris Island, South Carolina, Camp Lejeune/Camp Geiger, North Carolina, and Quantico, Virginia before becoming part of the 13th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) based in Camp Pendelton, California. Mr. Grote participated in MEU operations in the Pacific Ocean, Indian Ocean and Persian Gulf theaters of operation carrying him to 26 countries on four ships in two and a half years.

Stephen GroteIn 1995, Mr. Grote received his honorable discharge from active duty and attended graduate school at the Savannah College of Art and Design where he received his Master's of Fine Art (MFA) in photography in 1998. While in Savannah he interned at the Savannah Morning News and eventually worked his way into a staff photographer position. Mr. Grote's specialty became long term assignments and he was fortunate enough to be allowed to work on several of them by the newspaper. He brought home first place AP awards for two travel stories in 1998, one on the H.M. Bark Endeavour, a replica of Captain James Cook's ship, and another on a long term documentary project on Marine Corps training. The United States Marine Corps (USMC) series turned into his MFA thesis and became a traveling exhibit titled "boot".

Stephen GroteIn 1998, he applied for and received a work-study position at the Santa Fe Photographic Workshops where he worked in return for classes. While in Santa Fe he was accepted to the Eddie Adams Barnstorm Workshop for the 100 best new amateur and professional photographers in the United States with less than two years experience. After the Eddie Adams experience Mr. Grote became a full-time assistant to freelance National Geographic photographer Robb Kendrick.

Stephen Grote and Chicken He began his own freelance photography business, Stephen Grote Photography, in April 1998. He specializes in editorial, location, travel and corporate photography based on his unique photojournalistic style. He began Grote Enterprises, a computer network administration and consulting business for small and medium sized businesses in 1999. Mr. Grote taught full-time as well as maintaining his personal businesses from 1999 through 2006.  Mr. Grote is a full-time IT Manager and Special Projects Coordinator for Boatwright CPA firm in LaGrange, Georgia. He currently teaches photography, color correction, basic computing and networking on a part-time basis as time permits while maintaining his freelance photographic endeavours.
